"BioPak packaging is designed with the planet's health in mind first. Our designs always incorporate a responsible end-of-life solution to ensure the plant-based materials we use can eventually be returned back to the earth. In May 2021, BioPak relaunched our 'Compost Service' as Compost Connect – a not-for-profit, brand-agnostic platform that connects food service businesses with industrial composters.
Compost Connect is an organic recycling initiative and online platform that provides businesses with access to products, services and information that allows them to participate in a circular and regenerative system by diverting waste from landfill and converting it into nutrient-rich compost. There is a significant opportunity to capture and recycle a larger portion of the nearly 900,000 tonnes of organic waste generated by the food service and hospitality sector whilst simultaneously recovering and recycling an estimated 10 billion individual single-use food service disposables. Built as an open, not-for-profit organisation, Compost Connect allows businesses to identify suppliers of certified compostable packaging and access a sustainable end-of-life option. The platform also acts as an educational platform to provide resources and support. Data on the number and names of businesses recycling their organic waste are collected via a map allowing end users to locate businesses composting their organic waste and packaging.
While only a few of our products are accepted in the paper recycling stream, almost all of our products are accepted in organic recycling streams and hold Australian and European compost certifications (AS5810 & NF T 51800) and (AS4736 & EN 13432).
By removing PFAS, we have made bagasse suitable for recycling in the paper stream without food contamination. Currently, this is the only development that can contribute to better recycling."
