Less than two months remain for Europe’s budding young filmmakers to submit their entries for the Pro Carton Student Video Award 2023 – and be in with a chance to win the €5,000 prize and kickstart their career in creative film or packaging.
With the 23 June deadline fast-approaching, students across Europe are invited to combine their love for film and media with the most economically and ecologically balanced packaging mediums: carton and cartonboard. The competition is free to enter, and open to all students enrolled at a European school/college. The winner will be invited to and announced at a glamorous awards gala in Seville, Spain this September.
For the fourth consecutive year, Pro Carton – the European Association of Carton and Cartonboard manufacturers – will invite students to promote or explain one or more of the benefits of cartons (or cartonboard) in a creative way. The awards encourage the next generation of talent to showcase their video making and editing skills alongside their passion for sustainability.
Students interested in taking part in the free-to-enter competition can submit their film masterpieces individually or in a group of up to five before 23 June 2023. The video should be entertaining, creative and communicative, and must be between 15 seconds and two minutes in length. Entrants are encouraged to use the open brief to create any style of video they wish, to demonstrate the attractiveness and sustainability of cartonboard packaging.
In 2022, 60 university students from a record-breaking 19 countries across Europe submitted their unique short videos to promote the sustainable and circular packaging material. Due to the high standard of entries, an esteemed panel of experienced judges chose two joint winners. A team of four, Marco Scirè, Shailu Flammini, Stefania Squitieri and Aurora Italiano, taught by Michele Cirillo, from Accademia Italiana won with their video ‘The Carton Family: A Recycle Story’, while students of Gilbert Beronneau; Moritz Hilker, Lærke Blix Hagemann, Kenneth Dumevi and Benedek Tikk, from SRH Berlin University of Applied Sciences, were also victorious with ‘Cartonovella’.
While the Student Video Award winner receives a monetary €5,000 prize, the Public Award winner will receive the latest GoPro HERO and accessories bundle.
Winfried Muehling, Marketing and Communications Director at Pro Carton, has commented: “Time is running out for students to submit their entries for The Pro Carton Student Video Award, the most prestigious award in the carton and cartonboard industry. Entering the award is a truly unique opportunity for students to showcase their film-making and story-telling skills while celebrating the most sustainable packaging medium. A winner’s certificate is also a great addition to your CV, with the awards ceremony offering you a great chance to speak directly to the industry’s leading organisations. We cannot wait to receive your submissions and hopefully see you in Seville. Good luck!”
