We work actively to guarantee a sustainable supply, a fact rooted in the company's DNA. Since 2003, Envaplaster has been a pioneer in Europe incorporating recycled raw materials in the extrusion process. In the continuous work towards sustainability, in 2015, EFSA certified our process as suitable for using post-consumer material in contact with food.
As a company we understand that we have an obligation to improve our environment and ecosystem. Every day, we reflect, analyse, and implement action plans to improve our processes and sourcing. This is guided by our ESG committee and guaranteed throughout our internal processes OPTITRAY and RECITRAY.
In rPET, recycled material represents 80% of the volume (Certified, MORE and RETRAY official seals) and we have a loyal commitment to achieve a consumption of 100% recycled material as from the first four months of 2024.
We are now working in the philosophy Tray to Tray circular. We are pioneered in the official RETRAY certification, which promotes the use of post-consumer trays to be reused in new food trays.
In our facilities, we have enough technology to guarantee zero waste, being able to revalue all our scrap and by-products generated in the production process, giving them new live without leaving our facilities.
On that sense, all our lines have integrated mills:
- In case of extrusion, the average scrap generated in the process is around 18%. This, once crushed, we are able to reuse it in our extrusion process.
- As for our thermoforming lines, all of them have mills installed in line, which allow us to grind the skeleton generated in the production process, which is around 20-35% of the raw material consumed. We turn this material into raw material for our extruders, giving it a second life.
In the investment plan that we have approved and undertaking during the years 2023 and 2024, we are going to prepare the facilities so that within the company we only talk about, work with and bring to the market, waste that we can give a new life to it.
Regarding the supply of other auxiliary materials and energy, we have carried out actions that allow us to count major milestones. With a photovoltaic installation that generates 14% of our electricity consumption, a change in our vehicle fleet from diesel to plug-in hybrids, reducing our impact and a reduction in auxiliary materials of 12% of our resources. In addition, this year we have also started planting trees in depressed areas around us to capture CO2 emissions, with the aim of reducing our environmental impact sooner.
The sum of everything, plus the commitment of the management and the whole team, makes it possible to talk about Envaplaster as a company committed to SUSTAINABILITY. We make a decisive contribution to the construction of a CIRCULAR ECONOMY and we are ever closer to the business objective of being an emission-neutral company. All this with a non-negotiable purpose. To fulfil our vision of reducing hunger and poverty by reducing food waste.
