Warehousing and distribution specialist Bretts Transport has landed a new five-year deal as a distribution partner for one of the UK’s largest specialist plastic recyclers, Berry Circular Polymers.
Having initially worked with Berry on a backhaul basis, Cambridgeshire-based Bretts Transport’s nationwide reach as well as their flexible and customer-centric approach were what tipped the scales in securing the contract long-term.
As a part of the contract, Bretts will provide five dedicated vehicles and 10 curtainsider trailers, which will increase to a mix of 10 vehicles and trailers next year.
With unique global access to plastic waste and leading recycling technologies, Berry Circular Polymers purchase plastic scrap and waste from trusted suppliers which they reprocess into high quality polymers which can be turned into a variety of food packaging products.
The company comprises of PLASgran and BPI recycling, both of which are market leaders in the provision of highly efficient, competitively priced recycling for a vast array of scrap and waste plastics – making it one of the largest recycling businesses across the UK. The company is part of the American owned manufacturer and marketer of rigid plastic packaging products, Berry Global.
Bretts will collect plastic waste from Berry’s partners throughout the UK and deliver into their recycling facility in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire which opened in early 2023 – where it is reprocessed into homogenized materials for circular products.
While their Leamington facility is currently not yet at full capacity, Berry Circular Polymers expect volumes to significantly increase over the next six months as the site gears up for further growth.
Speaking on the relationship between the two companies Andrew Barnes, Transport Logistics Manager at Berry Circular Polymers said: “We are delighted to have selected Bretts Transport as one of our distribution providers moving forward. Having been aware of Bretts and their reputation within the marketplace for some time, the decision to appoint them as a dedicated partner moving forward was an obvious choice.
“Fundamentally as a business they continuously have their finger on the pulse, and actually deliver on what they promise. Their receptiveness and hands on approach makes you feel valued as a customer and in many ways, despite only working with them for a short while, the relationship has already developed into a partnership rather than your typical customer/supplier dynamic.
“Although I take care of the transport planning aspect of the operation, they remove a lot of the pain and stress associated with the logistical side of the business – especially in regard to fleet maintenance and the running of the fleet. My primary responsibility involves securing a consistent daily supply of feedstock for the factory's operations and since we produce our goods on-site, the regular and timely delivery of raw materials is therefore crucial. Without their collaborative assistance operations would effectively come to a standstill.”
Simon Brett, Managing Director at Bretts Transport also commented: “We are delighted to be partnering with Berry Circular Polymers and managing their distribution needs.
“As a business, they’re a hugely exciting brand with a bright future ahead so once we initially met with them to discuss overtaking their distribution contract we felt that by leveraging our capabilities and experience in the market, we would fast become a valuable asset for the company.
“We look forward with growing with them in the months and years to come and to deliver the quality of service and customer care that they have come to expect.”
