Leading pallet stability expert, Lindum has reduced plastic packaging by 10 tonnes and reduced movement in transport issues (MIT) for a long-standing sugar manufacturer.
Faced with the introduction of the UK’s plastic packaging tax, the sugar company, which was founded in 1972 appointed Lindum to spearhead its sustainability efforts and reduce overall plastic usage in logistics packaging.
Following robust trials at each of the manufacturer’s sites, Lindum was able to identify areas for improvement and provided solutions based on the machinery available at each site. Each site was offered a high-performance Nano Carestretch wrap which is 100% recyclable and constructed using 30% recycled materials, thus removing plastic packaging tax liability.
Following the switch to more sustainable pallet wrap, the sugar manufacturer was able to reduce overall plastic usage across each site by up to 10 tonnes which equated to a saving of 23% in overall emissions.
Rick Sellars, Sales Manager at Lindum says: “Following the introduction of the UK’s plastic packaging tax, the sugar company was keen to explore alternative packaging solutions that were environmentally friendly and guaranteed pallet stability during transit. Due to the nature of the product, the solution needed to retain strength to prevent damage and subsequent wastage caused by pallet stability issues.
“Following onsite trials, we saw that the company could benefit from our Carestretch Nano film solution. With the ability to stretch 250 - 300%, the Carestretch film offers exceptional strength and durability to significantly reduce the amount of film used per pallet. This solution reduced CO² impact by 23% when compared to the equivalent virgin polymer stretch film and removes Plastic Packaging Tax liability without sacrificing performance.”
The overall transition to Lindum’s Carestretch solution has meant the company has avoided costly tax liability, reduced overall plastic packaging usage, and mitigated MIT issues.
Based in Grimsby, Lindum specialises in pallet stability and stretch film wrap to help companies save money, reduce plastic, improve packaging performance, and reduce CO2 emissions.
