The 4∞ Form is a pharmaceutical blister pack that is made entirely of lacquered aluminium, which means that it is perfect for recycling, has impressive protective properties and is compliant with existing and future pharmaceutical and packaging regulations and legislation, such as the recently passed PPWR.
The 4∞ Form is intended primarily for the pharmaceutical industry, where it can replace existing solutions used in packaging tablets, capsules and similar products, such as OPA/AL/PVC (cold form) or PVC/PVDC (thermoform). The important difference is that the innovative Aluflexpack packaging is entirely made of lacquered aluminium. This is where the "secret" of the product name is hidden; aluminium is a material that can be endlessly or infinitely recycled without losing its properties, which are extremely important in the packaging industry for maintaining product safety and quality.
Aluminium is extremely light, resistant to both high and low temperatures and provides 100 percent protection against moisture, light, oxygen, and other gases, as well as bacteria and microorganisms. Products in flexible aluminium packaging therefore provide a very long shelf life.
Aluflexpack CEO Johannes Steurer is proud of the new product:
„As a flexible packaging company that has been developing aluminium-based products for over 40 years, we firmly stand behind everything aluminium has to offer, coming from its barrier and circular properties. We are in constant contact with our customers and looking into different ways we can use aluminium to assist them in their packaging journey. With new regulations shaping the market we were encouraged to try something no one has done before: form lacquered aluminium into a new, fully recyclable product for the pharmaceutical industry! Using our strong network of suppliers and collaborators, and more importantly the experience and deep industrial knowledge of our R&D department, we have come up with a new solution that can shape the Pharma market in a new, more sustainable direction. “
The product can be fully adapted to all the individual needs of customers, from shape to printing and branding, and it can be used in the packaging of different pharmaceutical products, e.g. antibiotics precisely because of the particularly strong barrier, over-the-counter medicines, and many others.
Aluflexpack is committed to sustainability, as evidenced by numerous certificates. Just recently, in May 2024, they were awarded a gold medal by EcoVadis, an organization that evaluates sustainability performance in four main pillars: environment, labour and human rights, sustainable procurement, and ethics. Thus, Aluflexpack was ranked in the top 1% of companies evaluated by EcoVadis in the printing industry. Aluflexpack is also actively developing circular solutions that ensure full compliance with the proposed EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) on the European level. The company has also committed to the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), in their efforts to minimize the impact on the environment.
