Albéa is extending its range of single-material packs in the lipcare segment with Breizhstick, a guided stick that is particularly suitable for soft formulas. It has been developed to be recyclable, thus meeting the criteria of "design for recycling". The packaging complies with the recommendations of the reference organizations, in this case RecyClass. The product consists of 4 pieces, all made of polypropylene (PP). The single-material packaging is lightweight and recyclable. The name chosen for this new stick, Breizhstick, is a nod to the Breton identity, as it is manufactured in Plouhinec, France, Albéa's European center of excellence for lipsticks. The raw material used is PP, one of the least CO2 emitting plastics among polymers. Thanks to its density, this material can be detected on the one hand and recycled on the other, in order to be reused at the end of the product's life. In Plouhinec, the Breizhstick production plant, the VOC impact is 0 on atmospheric emissions and there is no waste disposal. In addition, we have reduced our energy consumption by 10% over the last 10 years thanks to new electrical machines and heat recovery.
The fact that Breizhstick is produced in this factory will continue to meet these criteria. The Breizhstick meets a customer demand for lip balm packaging made from safe materials. Our standard has attracted many dermo-cosmetic brands. They can now opt for a more responsible alternative by choosing our solution. Breizhstick provides a real alternative with its mechanism, base, cup, and cap made entirely from PP, an environmentally and consumer-friendly material. Once the Breizhstick is collected at the sorting center, upon detection, all the elements will be transferred to the PP sorting center. Ensuring that the stick is made entirely of the same material is crucial for the circular economy.
Albéa is innovating to develop single-material packaging (lipstick tubes, makeup cases, etc.) as well as reusable and refillable solutions also using recycled or innovative materials.
