Building on its mission to accelerate the transition to more sustainable plastics and packaging, material sciences company VOID Technologies has appointed industry veteran Dr. Barry A. Morris as Chief Technology Advisor.
In this newly created role, Barry will provide strategic guidance, mentorship and business development support for VOID. The appointment comes against the backdrop of growing interest in the company’s unique, market-ready VO+ cavitation technology, which enables the production of high-performance PE films with 35% less plastic, opacity without TiO2 and improved recyclability.
Highly respected and widely regarded as a leading authority in the development of flexible packaging innovations and material science, Barry holds 12 U.S. patents and has written for over 125 publications, including his recently published 2nd edition to his comprehensive book, ‘The science and technology of flexible packaging’ (Elsevier, 2022).
Barry’s expertise is based on a successful 35-year career, supporting the ethylene copolymer business first at DuPont and then Dow in a variety of technology roles. In his most recent position before retiring, Barry was R&D Fellow, Packaging and Speciality Plastics.
For VOID, Barry’s experience and expertise will be invaluable in supporting the company’s ambitious growth plans. “Barry is a world authority in solving complex technical challenges and commercialising disruptive packaging innovations,” said James Gibson, CEO at VOID Technologies.
“His experience will be invaluable as we continue to develop and commercialise VOID’s innovative plastic technologies. Whether he is evolving our technical strategy, guiding technical programs or mentoring our team, Barry will play a pivotal
role helping VOID launch innovative and more sustainable films and fixable packaging.”
Commenting on his appointment, Barry said: “VOID Technologies is doing inspiring work in materials science. Innovations such as VO+ Technology are key for enabling film and packaging manufacturers to develop high performance products with a lower environmental footprint.
“I’ve been very impressed by what I’ve seen of VOID’s state-of-the-art facilities in Wisconsin and its plans for the future – and I can’t wait to immerse myself in the exciting opportunities ahead.”
