Developed for Costco Wholesale Corporation, the Fresh-Lock team worked in collaboration with Accredo Packaging and Radienz Living to replace a rigid tub with a sustainable, flexible pouch for the Kirkland Signature® Ultra Clean Premium Laundry Detergent Pacs. By adapting our award-winning Child-Guard® track and slider technology to polyethylene, the team achieved a fully recyclable pouch with a child-resistant closure that matches the performance of the original polypropylene version.
This unified effort resulted in remarkable sustainability gains for the SKU, including an 80 percent reduction in plastic usage, and 85 percent decrease in carbon footprint, plus 1.2 million pounds of resin and over 600,000 gallons of diesel fuel saved annually. Recognized for these achievements, this packaging redesign received both the Flexible Packaging Association Gold Award in Sustainability as well as a 2024 WorldStar Award in the household category.
