The opening event included a panel discussion between Dr. Bill Hardgrave, president of the University of Memphis, Julie Vargas, vice president and general manager of Avery Dennison Identification Solutions, Brian Marflak, VP of ops support and engineering at FedEx, and Jason Ivy, director - solution consultant at Avery Dennison.
Entitled 'RFID in Parcel: Shipper to Consumer Visibility', the discussion focused on how connected IDs, like RFID, will increase package visibility, automate manual scan processes and increase data accuracy along the fulfillment journey. With better data, parcel carriers can unlock more accurate predictive analytics and optimize route and labor planning to help reduce their carbon footprint. The RFID in Parcel partnership between Avery Dennison and the University of Memphis has evolved from a limited scope established a year ago to a permanent installation that promises to enhance learning and innovation in automatic identification technologies.
