Selenis at K-2022: Presented Portfolio of Highly Technical Pet Resins With RIC1 Recycling Code

With the growing pressure to demonstrate to consumers that products are genuinely circular, manufacturers, brand owners and retailers are increasingly looking for recyclable solutions. Selenis, global supplier of high quality and innovative specialty polyester solutions for diverse applications, presented a variety of recyclable solutions at the K-2022.

“We create, you choose. Materials for a better future”, was Selenis message at the K-show this year. Duarte Matos Gil, the company’s CEO commented “Selenis is dedicated to providing solutions to the challenges our planet faces. Our long history in the polymers industry feeds our know-how and experience to achieve sustainability in both the solutions we offer to our customers. We have centred our innovation efforts in markets where the pressure for recyclable solutions is higher because the life of the product is shorter, meaning end of life solutions are more critical. The cosmetics industry is an example, where brand owners have gone from prioritizing aesthetics, to prioritizing sustainability.”

Their newly launched Venuz™ CE product, is a copolyesters specifically developed for the cosmetics industry, that is fully recyclable in the PET stream. These resins can carry RIC1 designation, in accordance with California Act Assembly Bill 906 and ASTM D7611/D7611M – Standard Practice for Coding Plastic Manufactured Articles for Resin Identification. For cosmetic brands, having sustainable packaging allows you to label your packaging as environmentally friendly, enhancing your social mission and making your cosmetic brand stand out among others. “Recent market studies have shown that more than 80% of the younger generation is willing to pay more for eco-friendly packaged products. At Selenis we want to help our brand owners meet these consumer needs. The packaging you choose can send a powerful message.

If chosen wisely it can transmit your company’s values and allows buyers to imagine the quality and trustworthiness of the product inside,” says Marta Matos Gil, Chief Sustainability Officer at Selenis. Selenis, is a subsidiary of the IMG Group, a multinational with more than sixty years of experience in the industry. With production sites in Portugal, Italy, and now the USA, Selenis has both flexible batch and continuous SPP technology, permitting the production of a wide range of polymers to meet highly technical markets. Their production configurations provide Selenis the flexibility to produce both amorphous and crystallized products.

In October 2019 Selenis commercialized their innovative Eco Resins – supplying a sustainable version of all their product portfolio: all products can be produced with up to 50% post-consumer recycled content. In 2021, they scaled-up their production of these sustainable resins to full production volumes, and immediately sought to guarantee the traceability of these products by certifying them through Recyclass, that same year. Selenis’ mission relies on employing their profound knowledge of polymers, formulations, and processing, to partner with their customers in developing future-fit solutions and commit to create opportunities. Highly focused on sustainability, their progress in molecular recycling turns waste into the building blocks of their specialty resins, contributing to the fight against climate change.
