A. Hatzopoulos S.A. has partnered with OPRL and RECOUP for the recyclability certification of its X-CYCLE PE films. Exclusively available to its members, the OPRL Certified as Recyclable scheme has been developed to provide a robust analysis of the design, materials and special features of a packaging and to give a clear statement on its recyclability in the UK.
Two main X-CYCLE PE versions were selected and submitted for assessment: a duplex and a triplex film formulation. Both films are mono-material, based exclusively on PE and incorporate high-barrier properties, being suitable for various packaging applications and pack formats. After thorough laboratory analysis by a major UK film recycler of PE, A.Hatzopoulos S.A. are excited that both of these X-CYCLE PE films have received the “Certified as Recyclable” marque. This certification provides assurance that our packaging design is in complete accordance with the recycling infrastructure in the UK for flexible packaging.
A.Hatzopoulos S.A. are delighted that their films have received this marque that guarantees transparency following ‘real world’ testing. As Jane Bevis, Chair of OPRL stated: “For some time now we’ve been concerned about the level of greenwash and overclaiming evident in the packaging market. It’s really tough for any but the most practised packaging technologist to keep up with the latest coatings, pigments, bonding and material combinations and their impact on recyclability. So we’re delighted to be able to bring clarity and robust analysis to bear with Certified As Recyclable, enabling buyers and specifiers to ensure they are sourcing the right packaging to deliver their sustainability commitments.”
The Certified as Recyclable marque certifies that the pack can carry the Recycle label under the OPRL scheme.
The marque itself should not appear on consumer facing packaging.
