There are 66 WPO members´ countries.
From Tokyo, WPO will fly to Chicago, to participate at PACKEXPO International (www.packexpo.com – Oct 23-26). In both trade shows, the Organisation will have an institutional booth showcasing the actions and plans, especially focusing on Education and Sustainability & Save Food. Both shows will also be an opportunity to promote WorldStar Awards, the global packaging competition organized by WPO and that, each year, attracts more and more registrations worldwide.
WPO will also have Press Conferences. In Tokyo, due to Covid restrictions, it will be a virtual Press Conference. A video with Pierre´s message, especially produced for the occasion, will be presented to the local members of the press. And in Chicago, WPO will be part of the official PACKEXPO Press Conference. The message is very similar in the two ocassions: “My objective is to focus on leading the WPO continuing supporting important international initiatives like the Save Food Project, from UN’s Food & Agriculture Organisation (FAO). This support comes in different ways such as educating packaging professionals and the industry about the invaluable aspects of packaging, reducing food waste through the better use of packaging and reducing poverty by the use of better and more effective packaging and focusing on correct use of packaging.”
According to Pierre, the packaging professionals should understand that decisions need to be made and thast these decisions will alter the course and map the path for future generations, focusing on:
- The material types that we use has and will change the landscape having a direct impact on sustainability
- The technology that we design and implement will map the course of energy reduction that we will follow over the next 10 to 20 years
- The innovation of new ideas in packaging will make the difference to create a successful and sustainable circular economy
- The people that use the packaging, the demands that we place on the industry along with knowledge and the necessary education will make the difference for a successful future.
“We need to empower consumers with the ability to lead their lives in a more environmentally positive way Educating, Equipping and Empowering the next generations”, concludes Pierre.
