Vioneo, a Swiss-headquartered pioneer in fossil-free plastics for the packaging industry, will make its debut at interpack 2026 in Düsseldorf, Germany - the world's largest and most influential trade fair for the packaging sector and related processing industries.
Founded with a clear mission to defossilise the materials and chemicals sector, Vioneo is backed by AP Møller Holding, one of Europe's most established and respected investment groups. The company's strong European heritage is reflected not only in its Swiss base and founding investors but also in its growing presence across the continent, where it is building strategic partnerships with leading packaging manufacturers, converters, and brand owners committed to decarbonisation.
The name Vioneo reflects the company's ambition - drawn from the Latin "vio" (journey) and "neo" (new), with the "o" symbolising zero, translating to "the journey to net zero." Vioneo brings together a leadership team with deep expertise in chemicals, polymers, and energy, and has already seen significant interest from companies across the entire packaging value chain - from resin producers and converters to consumer goods brands seeking credible pathways to fossil-free packaging.
A Huge Opportunity to Decarbonise the Packaging Industry
The packaging industry represents one of the largest opportunities for defossilisation in the plastics sector. Recycling and reuse alone cannot meet global packaging demand or achieve Net Zero goals - alternative production pathways like Vioneo's are essential to delivering fossil-free virgin plastics at scale.
The EU’s regulatory environment is gearing up to support this transition and drive demand for fossil-free alternatives such as the implementation of PPWR and the upcoming expansion of CBAM.
Vioneo has designed a production method that utilises well-proven technologies in an innovative way, ensuring plastics are produced without any fossil feedstock, with production facilities powered entirely by renewable energy. Using green methanol - a non-food, renewable feedstock - Vioneo produces fully segregated and traceable fossil-free polypropylene and polyethylene.
These are true drop-in replacements, chemically identical to conventional plastics, delivering the same processing efficiency and product performance that converters and brand owners rely on, while being fully compatible with existing recycling infrastructure. Every kilogram produced avoids at least 6 kg of CO₂ emissions.
Building Momentum Across Europe and Beyond
As Vioneo progresses towards its first commercial-scale production, the company has seen significant interest from major players across the packaging value chain in Europe and globally. interpack 2026 provides the ideal platform to deepen these relationships and showcase Vioneo's fossil-free solutions to the packaging industry's most influential decision-makers.
"Europe is at the forefront of the transition to sustainable packaging, and interpack is where the industry comes together to shape that future," said Katja Wodjereck, CCO of Vioneo. "Making our debut here allows us to connect with the partners, customers, and innovators who share our ambition to defossilise packaging. The momentum and interest we are seeing across the value chain reinforces our confidence that fossil-free plastics are not just possible - they are essential, and they are happening now."
