On June 11, the AC Hotel Sant Cugat served as a meeting point for professionals from the industrial sector during the technical workshop organized by Barcelona Packaging Hub in collaboration with SMC. The event brought together engineers, production managers, and innovation experts to discuss and share strategies aimed at optimizing industrial automation.
This conference did not focus solely on technology or performance but provided a space for critical reflection on the evolution of machines, processes, and production models. From an integrative perspective, the discussion centered on how to advance towards an industry that is truly efficient, profitable, and reliable.
The keynote speaker, Alberto Morán, an innovation expert, offered a perspective on the historical evolution of automation, analyzing Industry 5.0, a model centered on people that combines advanced technology, sustainability, resilience, and a strong focus on human talent.
During the event, numerous topics directly affecting the daily operations of companies in the sector were addressed: from the impact of industrial design on energy efficiency to the strategic role of corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance as a guarantee of long-term performance. The discussion also examined how flexibility, so demanded in today’s environment, must be managed carefully: a more flexible machine can imply shorter lifespan and higher energy consumption if not intelligently designed.
Attendees agreed on the need to maintain a critical and continuous approach to the machines we design and use, identifying waste, improving systems, and accepting that efficiency is not a state but an ongoing process. In this context, artificial intelligence emerges as a key tool to achieve operational autonomy and move towards a future where machines can make data-driven decisions to self-manage their operation and maintenance.
