The Orbit lid has been nominated to compete in the Packnorth Award. The Swedish Rheumatism Association are nominating the product from Sonoco in the User-friendly packaging category. -We're honoured that the Swedish Rheumatism Association has nominated Orbit™ for the Pack north Award, says Isabelle Le Graët, Senior Marketing Manager - Sonoco Consumer Packaging EMEA.
The Orbit lid by Sonoco is nominated for its consistently user-centred design and its ability to enhance the functionality of an established packaging format. Through a well-considered technical design, a widely recognised user challenge associated with opening glass jars has been effectively addressed.
The lid’s opening and reclosing mechanism has been developed to minimise the need for force and fine motor precision. This results in a more intuitive and predictable user experience, while also reducing variability in usability across different user groups and usage situations.
The ergonomic design contributes to increased accessibility and makes the packaging suitable for a broader target group, including individuals with reduced hand strength or limited mobility. In this way, independent use in everyday situations is supported.
The Orbit lid represents a clear example of how technical development and functional design can work in tandem to modernise a traditional solution and significantly improve usability, without compromising the product’s fundamental function.
-The two-part lid for glass jars is a good example of how a traditional type of packaging solution can be modernised and made more functional. When this lid was introduced, it made a significant difference in terms of usability, and it feels entirely appropriate to nominate this innovative solution, says Stina Nordström, Secretary General of the Swedish Rheumatism Association.
-We're honoured that the Swedish Rheumatism Association has nominated Orbit™ for the Pack north Award. This recognition is especially meaningful because it comes from the people who inspired us to rethink something most of us had stopped questioning. For generations, consumers have struggled to open glass jars and simply accepted it as the norm. What is a small frustration for some can be a daily challenge for others.
With Orbit™, we set out to challenge that status quo, and this is only the beginning! Orbit™ makes everyday life easier for everyone, but for people living with arthritis or reduced hand strength, it can restore something even more valuable: independence. We're incredibly proud to play a small part in making that possible.
Thank you, Swedish Rheumatism Association, for this incredible honour! Isabelle Le Graët, Senior Marketing Manager - Sonoco Consumer Packaging EMEA
