In addition to examining ways to improve efficiencies and introduce energy savings throughout its offices and factories, the team will also examine how Pollards can support its customers in meeting their sustainability objectives.
Pollards’ actions to date have included careful allocation of resources between the company’s four UK factories so as to maximise use of machines and minimise delivery distances to customers. The company will continue to invest in the introduction of energy-efficient solutions including new equipment and LED lighting.
While cardboard already has a strong environmental profile, thanks to its incorporation of recycled material and recyclability, the Sustainability Team will be looking at ways to further enhance the sustainability of Pollards’ packaging solutions while still achieving functionality and aesthetic appeal.
These include careful selection of decoration and finishing options and maximising the strength and durability of the box construction, while minimising the amount of material required and without compromising on on-shelf appeal, user convenience and practicality.
“In the current focus on the environmental impact of packaging, it is important to remember its prime requirements to protect, preserve and promote products,” said Pusterla Pollards’ Head of Creative Services, Tan Mahal.
“Our Sustainability Team’s remit is to help us incorporate sustainability into all aspects of design and manufacturing while continuing to create solutions that reflect a luxury, premium image, are practical and functional, and ensure products reach the end-consumer in prime condition.”
