In addition to its short- and medium-term climate targets, STI Group is currently the only German packaging company with over 500 employees to have committed to the long-term goal of achieving net-zero emissions. The Group’s ambitious climate targets have now been officially validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
Investments in energy efficiency, renewable electricity from solar and wind power, and a consistent focus on maximising the recyclability of packaging make STI Group one of the most committed players in climate protection within the packaging industry. By joining the SBTi in 2023, the company pledged to drive the sustainable transformation of all its business activities. The SBTi supports companies worldwide in aligning their climate action with scientific standards to help combat the global climate crisis.
“Sustainability is an integral part of our corporate strategy. As an SBTi member, we pursue our climate goals with the highest level of commitment, transparency and effectiveness – also in the interest of our customers,” says Jakob Rinninger, CEO of STI Group. “Many of our customers are already demanding CO2-optimised packaging. In the future, this will be a decisive factor in our competitiveness alongside price.”
STI Group is accelerating its climate action: after equipping its production sites in Alsfeld and Lauterbach with solar systems in 2023 and 2024, the company is now investing approximately €1.2 million in a 1.85 MWp photovoltaic system at its site in Kecskemét, Hungary. The Hungarian facility — one of Eastern Europe's largest producers of folding cartons — will cover a significant portion of its electricity needs with self-generated solar power starting in August 2025.
