After equipping its German production sites in Alsfeld and Lauterbach with solar power generation in 2023 and 2024, STI Group has now commissioned a photovoltaic installation at its Kecskemét plant in Hungary. This advances the company’s ambitious climate protection agenda on an international level.
Representing an investment of some 2 million euros, the new 2.14 MWp (megawatt-peak) system consists of nearly 5,000 photovoltaic panels, enabling the Kecskemét site – one of the largest folding carton manufacturers in Eastern Europe – to generate a significant proportion of its electricity needs since August 2025.
In line with its long-term strategic objectives, the new installation makes a positive contribution to reducing the company’s CO₂ footprint. ‘Sustainability and innovation have always been priorities for us,’ explains Jakob Rinninger, CEO of STI Group. ‘By transforming our business activities to operate more sustainably, we not only take a leading role in climate protection but are also better placed to support our customers in achieving their own environmental goals.’
Award-winning sustainability
Since 2023, STI Group has been a member of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and is committed to reducing its CO₂ emissions in line with the Paris Climate Agreement. In 2025, the company’s carbon footprint calculation and associated sustainability targets were validated by the SBTi as compliant with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG).
More recently, STI Group again received recognition for sustainability from independent rating platform EcoVadis. Being awarded a Platinum rating across the company group for a second consecutive year reflects its outstanding commitment to, and achievements in, sustainability. Currently it is the only medium-sized German packaging company to hold this rating at group level, including all its offices and production sites.
