We’re here to kill fleas, not the environment. Itch is on a mission to help pets stay flea and worm free forever. Each month, we deliver a tailored dose of vet approved, scientifically proven parasite treatments, exactly when a pet needs it, so their pet parent never forgets to treat their pet. Regular monthly preventative treatment is essential to protect pets from fleas, so it’s important we package our products as sustainably as possible, because we ship a lot of them. Itch has led an industry leading change in the last year to reduce packaging waste, use more sustainable material and better the journey of an Itch pack, from HQ to doormat.
Working alongside our pharmaceutical partner Chanelle in Ireland and the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) in the UK, we have been licensed and approved to send out our hero Itch Flea product without an outer carton. Itch Flea is now sent to our customers in a snazzy foil jacket! We’ve ditched the carton and along with it approximately 13 tonnes of waste paper in the next year alone. We’ve worked with the VMD to ensure that the regulated information the customer needs for correct application is now printed on the foil, rather than an outer carton. We are the only brand in our sector to distribute products to customers in this new, more sustainable format. Removing the carton means that we can ship Itch Flea in a more planet friendly way. Subscription customers will receive Itch Flea Foil in a mailing bag that is now 100% recyclable and made from 100% recycled materials. Reducing the volumes of packaging and sending the flea pipette in its foil sleeve has made the overall product considerably smaller. This has reduced the amount of delivery trucks we put on the road by 70%, a massive scaling down in our carbon footprint.
In addition to this, we have also been able to improve the packaging substrate we use on pouches across the rest of the Itch range, from supplements to treats, which is now 100% recyclable. From using the most sustainable materials to sniffing out the most carbon efficient methods, our product team is always on the lookout for more planet friendly ways for Itch to leave a mark.
