ColorMatrix™ AAnchor™ Acetaldehyde Control Technology for PET
ColorMatrix™ AAnchor™ Acetaldehyde Control Technology for PET is a liquid additive designed to reduce acetaldehyde levels present in PET preforms and bottles. Acetaldehyde is a by-product formed during the processing of PET to make preforms and bottles, which migrates from the bottle walls into bottle contents. This phenomenon can lead to odor and taste issues, particularly with bottled water. This problem is exaggerated when rPET is used, often requiring increased amounts of acetaldehyde scavenger to control AA levels.
ColorMatrix AAnchor is designed to reduce AA levels, maintain product quality, ensure regulatory compliance through recycling, and eliminate any recycling processing issues commonly experienced when using other types of AA scavenger. These benefits will allow brands to increase their consumption of rPET to meet sustainability targets without compromising product quality or safety. As PET is recycled and re-used, additive levels will accumulate, particularly in closed-loop recycling systems. This accumulation effect increases risks relative to regulatory compliance and exaggerates any additive-related processing issues.
ColorMatrix AAnchor has been formulated to significantly reduce migration risk, ensuring regulatory compliance, even at elevated levels due to accumulation. There is also a reduced risk of side reactions forming other NIAS species, contributing to reduced brand risk. The reduced tendency for sublimation during processing and recycling positively impacts both converter and rPET resin producer productivity, reducing mold deposition and fouling of equipment. As the use of rPET increases, pressure to maintain product quality, safety, and operational throughput also increases. This additive is an excellent example of maintaining functional performance while ensuring a positive impact on the recycled PET product and processing.
