Private-wire renewable energy company Sonaura has announced a long-term private wire Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to directly deliver solar energy to German tube packaging manufacturer Albéa, providing much-needed protection from energy price volatility.
The PPA will see Sonaura supply renewable energy to Albéa’s factory in Scheßlitz, by developing and operating a bespoke private wire system located on nearby land. The project will deliver solar energy directly to Albéa via a private wire connection, completely bypassing the grid.
The 4.2 MWp project will be developed on land designated as privileged under German planning law, where ground-mounted solar is permitted under specific conditions. These areas are typically located close to infrastructure, specifically within 200 metres of motorways or railways, which can help to streamline and accelerate the development process.
Ed Pateman-Jones, Sonaura’s CEO said: “Our agreement with Albéa means they will benefit from the cost efficiency, energy independence, and long-term sustainability that Sonaura’s projects deliver. Our fixed price structure will protect them from price volatility in a turbulent market.
“At a time when energy security is more important than ever, we are helping to deliver solutions which give businesses across Europe their own direct source of energy.
“We are thrilled Albéa has chosen to take advantage of our ambitious solution and the benefits a PPA will deliver in an increasingly volatile worldwide energy market.”
Founded in the UK, Sonaura’s German pipeline of projects will be delivered by its expert team in Berlin.
Established in 2024, Sonaura specialises in off-site private wire renewable energy for industrial clients including data centres, manufacturers and companies within the food, drink and cold storage sectors. Working across Europe, it designs, develops, and operates bespoke private wire renewable energy projects that deliver valuable protection against price volatility in an increasingly unstable market, cost efficiency, energy independence, and long-term sustainability.
Barbara de Saint Aubin, CEO of Albéa Tubes, said: “Sonaura’s solution to power our factory in Schesslitz ensures we will continue to meet our energy needs well into the future. At a time when securing clean energy has never been more important given the increasingly volatile market and severely constrained grid capacity, Sonaura’s solution provides companies looking for enhanced energy security a smart and innovative service.
“We are looking forward to working with the team of experts at Sonaura as they deliver this exciting project and all its benefits.”
