Sherbourne Recycling has taken home gold in two categories at the 2025 National Recycling Awards. Alongside being named Independent Operator of the Year (under 50 employees), the team was also presented with the prestigious Recycling Facility of the Year accolade.
Held at the Hilton London Metropole, the event brought together the UK recycling supply chain to celebrate expertise, excellence and unique contributions from across the industry. The Independent Operator of the Year category celebrated businesses driving resource management up the waste hierarchy, while the Recycling Facility of the Year award recognised exemplary operation and innovation.
The judges were impressed with Sherbourne Recycling’s state-of-the-art material recycling facility (MRF) and the site’s unique approach to maximising output quality. By combining the latest developments in AI and robotics, the facility achieves unmatched material separation and low contamination rates. Indeed, it is widely considered one of the most advanced plants of its kind anywhere in the world.
Commenting on the awards, Layla Shannon, business development director at Sherbourne Recycling, said: “In the recycling sector, every small action matters. These awards celebrate our commitment to reducing waste and driving national progress towards a more circular future.
“Being recognised in two separate categories for our pioneering facility is not only testament to the team’s hard work and dedication, but also an important reminder of our incredible journey since undertaking the very first feasibility study back in 2016. It reminds us of the transformational role that technology can play in the recycling sector and inspires us to push even harder to achieve a more circular economy for household waste.”
