Salient Bio, the London-based biotech start-up, has selected Burgopak to design and manufacture new packaging for its gut microbiome and vaginal microbiome test kits.
The brief was to create packaging that provides a straightforward, premium user experience with a professional feel.
The team at Salient Bio were looking for a solution with a staged opening, guiding the user through the test with every new layer inside the packaging. A separate small return mailer also needed to be included, enabling the collected sample to be efficiently returned to the lab, while also meeting the required transport regulations for biological substances.
Burgopak designed packaging based on its proprietary Coupe design, which is completely recyclable.
The pack has a document wallet for instructions on the reverse side of the inside lid and removable fitments to showcase the device. Underneath, there is a flexible space for further components and the return box.
Jani Mahmud, Head of Operations at Salient Bio, said:
“We’re delighted with how the packaging has turned out. The return box has made it much easier for users to return their sample in the post and has the additional benefit that users can keep the main box to refer back to. Some people naturally might feel apprehensive before doing a test of this nature, but the packaging helps to make the process easy.”

The Salient Bio project was undertaken by the recently formed Wellness division at Burgopak.
