Robinson – the manufacturer specialising in value-added custom packaging – visited Althorpe and Keadby Primary school to teach children aged 5-11 the importance of sustainability
The day involved explaining the benefits of packaging, how they can become more sustainable, and what they can do to be good citizens by reducing waste, not littering and doing litter picks.
Laura Donington, Group Marketing Manager at Robinson and STEM Ambassador, said:
“It’s really important to work alongside schools to help children get a good understanding of sustainability and what they can do to have a positive impact on the environment. It was great to see all the children so enthusiastic about the topic and ask many different questions. It was such a fantastic day and we will continue to partner with more schools to help raise awareness and increase action of our future generation.”
A wide range of topics were covered from recycling to re-using packaging and explaining what a carbon footprint is. All the activities were interactive and allowed sustainability to be learnt in an easy and fun way.
Lauren White, Head of STEM at Althorpe and Keadby Primary School, said:
“Here at Althorpe and Keadby Primary School we aim to raise aspirations, providing children with the knowledge of a range of careers, as well as understanding issues that we face in the world. Having Laura join us enabled children to engaged with activities, linked to their science learning and question an expert first hand. Laura incorporated important messages around recycling and sustainability during the workshops, providing a real purpose. The children were inquisitive and linked new learning to previous knowledge around these important issues.”
Robinson launched a sustainability pledge earlier this year and as part of their community pillar, they committed to partner with schools, colleges and universities on promoting a circular economy, teaching recycling and discussing the benefits of packaging. Robinson is also providing apprenticeship opportunities and supporting the community through charitable activities.
Laura said: “As a company, we are very passionate about supporting the younger generation and the technologists and engineers of tomorrow. We want to get involved in the community and support in any way we can. We have some very exciting plans for next year and we are looking forward to making a positive impact.”
