B Corp certified packaging company, Reuseabox, draws over 80% of its energy from onsite solar and battery in its first month thanks to 70% grant funding from North Kesteven District Council.
Reuseabox, a Lincolnshire based B Corp certified company that makes it easy for people to reuse cardboard boxes, has completed its transition to solar-powered operations after installing a battery storage system thanks to grant funding from North Kesteven District Council and support from Business Lincolnshire.
The company moved into its current warehouse in March 2025 after purchasing the site, which already had solar panels fitted. Until now, that energy has been going straight back to the grid rather than powering the warehouse itself. The addition of battery storage means Reuseabox can finally capture and use the power its own panels generate.
Figures from July, the first full month of combined solar and battery operation, show that 67% of the company's energy came directly from its solar panels, with a further 17% drawn from stored battery power. Only 16% was pulled from the National Grid, a dramatic reduction from the company's previous energy setup.
The impact on running costs has been immediate, with their July energy bill down by more than 77% on its typical monthly spend. Those savings are being reinvested directly into the business, with Reuseabox planning to fund a new role in its supply chain team over the coming months.
The battery system allows Reuseabox to store excess solar energy generated during the day and use it during darker hours or periods of lower sunlight, smoothing out supply and further reducing dependence on the grid. Early modelling suggests solar generation will account for around 80% of energy needs through summer months, dropping to 50-65% in autumn, 15-35% over winter and 50-70% in spring, with the battery expected to help bridge the gap during lower-generation periods.
For a business built entirely around extending the life of packaging materials, the move to renewable energy extends that same circular thinking to its own operations.

The battery has meant we're finally putting our own solar panels to work, and getting to 100% is the next box we want to tick."
The grant funding from North Kesteven District Council formed a key part of making the battery installation possible, reflecting the council's wider support for local businesses who want to reduce their environmental impact and become more sustainable.
With the battery now in place, Reuseabox's next goal is to run its warehouse on 100% solar energy, further reducing its reliance on the grid year-round.
