Domino Printing Sciences (Domino) is helping Grupo CAC, one of Portugal’s largest egg producers and proud owner of the “happiest hens in Portugal”, to ensure strict quality assurance processes, traceability, and compliance with global food safety standards through its suite of coding and marking technologies.
Manuel Sobreiro, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Grupo CAC, comments: “With Domino as our partner, we are confident in maintaining our position as market leader in the European and international market. Domino’s technology ensures secure and lasting identification across our entire value chain, making traceability and quality control effortless.”
Founded over 30 years ago as a legal cooperative of 13 producers, today Grupo CAC is one of Portugal’s largest producers of eggs, managing 3.4 million laying hens on 65 farms across Portugal. The company trusts Domino’s ‘egg to pallet’ coding solutions to provide reliable and secure coding of their Matinados egg brand – starting with a variable code on each eggshell.
After grading, Grupo CAC’s eggs are printed with an ‘egg code’ by an Ax350i continuous inkjet printer. The code serves as the egg’s passport, enabling full traceability from the point of sale right back to the place of production. Egg pack coding is managed by Domino’s egg pack printing traverser, which provides high-quality, high-resolution coding on up to 80 egg packs per minute using a Domino Gx350i thermal inkjet printer. Egg packs are then packaged into shipping cases and pallets – ready to ship out to grocery stores across Portugal – with each pallet labelled for distribution by a Domino M230i-T4 labeller.
All of Domino’s inks, consumables, and products comply with EU standards and FDA regulations regarding food safety, ensuring global market readiness.
Domino’s complete coding and marking solutions cover the end-to-end labelling process and integrate seamlessly with Grupo CAC’s Moba egg grading equipment, helping the company to effectively manage and ship more than 3 million eggs every single day. Proper coding and labelling serve as a seal of quality, assuring retailers and consumers that they are purchasing a high-quality, trustworthy product that they can confidently bring home to their families.
Tiago Ribeiro, Head of the Technical Department, Grupo CAC, adds: “Domino’s technology is vital in our operations. From the moment eggs arrive for classification to their distribution, every second counts. The integration with Moba equipment and the accuracy of Domino’s solutions help us achieve the highest coding, hygiene, and safety standards.”
Miguel Castelo Branco, Account Manager, Domino Portugal, concludes: “At Domino, we design tailored solutions for our clients. For Grupo CAC, we ensured every eggshell and its packaging was coded with precision, meeting all regulatory and traceability needs. It’s a partnership built on trust and innovation.”
