TODAY A Plastic Planet announces the launch of 'PlasticFreeLand', a curated showcase of ten cutting-edge sustainable innovations during London Climate Action Week.
Taking place at Blue Earth Forum from 24–26 June, the installation is part of a two-day gathering that brings together 300+ investors, 40+ pioneering businesses, and a curated network of leaders committed to building a regenerative future.
‘PlasticFreeLand’ will take over the entrance space at Protein Studios in Shoreditch, welcoming every attendee with striking displays of next-generation products and materials that are already commercially available.
The showcase highlights that transitioning away from plastic demands revolutionary materials that perform better while working in harmony with natural systems.
Bananatex, the world’s first fabric made from regeneratively grown banana plants (used by Stella McCartney and Balenciaga) features alongside Purified’s plastic-free trainers, Mover’s plastic-free sportswear and Sway’s seaweed-based packaging.
Visitors will also discover NBCo’s molded fibre bottles, Sequinova’s plastic-free sequined fabric, and Notpla’s compostable, seaweed-coated foodware.
Featured developers include ShellWorks Vivomer with branded bottles and jars made from materials made from fermented microbes, Sparxell’s printed fabrics and sequinned pieces, and BioFluff’s biodegradable fur that replaces toxic plastic faux fur and plush for toys and furnishings.
This opportunity was supported by HH Global, helping bring ‘PlasticFreeLand’ to life at London Climate Action Week.
The brainchild of A Plastic Planet, PlasticFree was launched at the World Economic Forum in Davos in 2023 and operates in over 23 countries. It has established itself as a trusted platform for designers and brands seeking sustainable solutions to plastic.
Its founding council includes design, scientists and business leaders such as Sir David King, Eden Project co-founder Sir Tim Smit, designer Thomas Heatherwick and architect Sir David Chipperfield.
More than 500 million metric tonnes of plastic are produced every year for use in a wide variety of applications. Scientists have compiled a list of over 16,000 chemicals present in plastic products and found that more than 4,000 of these were hazardous to human health and the environment.
Guy Hayler, Co-Founder & CCO, Blue Earth: “PlasticFreeLand sets the tone for what Blue Earth Forum is all about, bold ideas, tangible solutions, and the pioneers bringing them to life. As the first thing people see when they walk through the doors, it sends a powerful message: a regenerative future isn’t distant or theoretical, it’s being built right now. We’re proud to platform innovators who are reshaping the materials economy and turning climate ambition into commercial reality.”
Sian Sutherland, Co-Founder, A Plastic Planet: "PlasticFreeLand gives humanity hope. It proves that it is not just possible to wean ourselves from toxic indestructible plastic, but it can give us a world that looks and feels vastly superior. Stop believing the BS from the fossil dinosaurs that only plastic will give us the life we want. PlasticFreeLand shows us that we can live in true circular harmony with Nature. This is proof-positive of real investment opportunity. We just need to switch the focus, the funding and our incredible future is possible today.
With global legislation on plastic pollution increasing dramatically, the continued use of plastic presents a $100 billion annual financial risk to businesses by 2040.
London Climate Action Week runs from 21-29 June. The Blue Earth Forum begins on 24 June.
