Sustainable packaging meets efficient processes
Papair's packaging solutions are now an integral part of regular operations at the new ROSSMANN e-commerce warehouse in Großburgwedel/Hanover. Packaged in pre-assembled sheets (PapairSheets) and cushioning bags (PapairBags), around 9,000 products from the ROSSMANN range are shipped daily throughout Germany and to Denmark. This not only reduces the amount of plastic used in the packaging process, but also makes operations significantly more efficient. The partnership between the two companies is therefore a model of how sustainability and efficiency can go hand in hand.
More efficient and sustainable
ROSSMANN's goal was clear: packaging should be completely plastic-free without compromising safety or handling. Together with Papair, pre-assembled sheets and bags in custom sizes were introduced. This speeds up order picking and also reduces costs.
Simon Fuhse, Head of Product Availability, confirms:
‘With Papair's customised solutions, we were able to integrate a large part of the cushion packaging directly into our picking process. This simplifies our processes considerably.’
From idea to regular operation
The first contact between ROSSMANN and Papair was made back in 2021. With the launch of the new warehouse, the switch from bubble wrap to Papair products has now been implemented.
Christopher Feist, CEO of Papair, explains:
‘From the very beginning, we worked closely with ROSSMANN's logistics experts for the online sector at the time and examined all the options in detail. This resulted in packaging solutions that ROSSMANN now uses in its daily shipping operations. This shows us that we are on the right track with our new development and that there is still great potential for savings at other companies.’
Signal to the industry
For Papair, the collaboration is a flagship project. It shows that sustainable packaging solutions are not only ecologically sensible, but also economically advantageous and that they can be transferred to other industries.
In addition, the cooperation strengthens the regional economy: ROSSMANN deliberately relies on direct procurement from the manufacturer in Lower Saxony.
