For more than 35 years, the Fresh-Lock team has been committed to creating closure solutions that prioritize circulatory and waste elimination. With sustainability at the core of the team’s efforts, Fresh-Lock® zipper and slider solutions are designed to balance functionality, consumer convenience, and environmental responsibility.
Today's consumers are more environmentally conscious than ever and prefer brands that align with their beliefs. The Fresh-Lock® 8000 Series is a line of flexible packaging closures that aim to help brands transition to flexible packaging and optimize sustainable technologies. This portfolio helps to provide sustainable packaging to the marketplace while still delivering the ideal consumer experience for reclosable pouches and the sustainable practices consumers are seeking from brands.
One innovation in this portfolio is Fresh-Lock+ Renewables, a bio-based line of press-to-close zippers and sliders that begin with sugarcane-derived polyethylene (PE). After harvest, sugarcane is processed into bioethanol, then transformed into ethylene and finally polyethylene resin. The result is a bio-based PE closure that can be paired with recyclable film structures enabling fully recyclable pouches. Because sugarcane absorbs carbon as it grows, the material also contributes positively to reducing greenhouse gas emissions at its origin.
The use of bio-based PE allows for nearly seamless integration into existing recycling streams since its characteristics closely mirror traditional PE. This helps brands introduce renewable materials into their packaging without sacrificing efficiency, protection, or consumer experience. For many, recyclable bio-based packaging offers the most accessible sustainability option given the current waste collection and processing infrastructure.
The Fresh-Lock team recognizes that recyclability is not always practical for every product. Certain foods leave behind residues that complicate recycling, making compostability a stronger fit. To address this, the Fresh-Lock team has also developed certified, bio-based home- and industrially compostable closures that seal effectively to compostable films, help maintain food safety, and provide consumer-friendly reclosability.
By advancing bio-based closure technologies, the Fresh-Lock team is helping brands pursue diverse end-of-life strategies for their packaging portfolios. These solutions represent an important step toward flexible packaging that better serves both people and the planet.
