ORBIS Europe, an international manufacturer of recyclable, reusable plastic packaging solutions, has continued to advance its 2024 sustainability goals. With targeted measures in material development, the company was able to ecologically optimize its HDB 1210 large load carrier and increase the proportion of recycled material. “Sustainability is a central aspect of our company philosophy and therefore also an essential feature of our product range,” says Jürgen Krahé, Senior Commercial Director EMEA. "In addition, our customers' need to make their supply chain and packaging concepts greener is increasing. We meet these requirements with our sustainable solutions.”
ORBIS is part of the US manufacturing company Menasha Corporation, which celebrated its 175th anniversary last year. ORBIS Europe has been successfully representing its parent company on the European market since 2016.
Recycled material proportion increased, quality standards confirmed
In order to meet customers' increasing demands for long-lasting, robust and environmentally friendly packaging solutions, ORBIS is continuously optimizing its product portfolio. Last year, the company was able to increase the recycled content of its large load carrier HDB 1210 from 71 to 81 percent. The HDB is suitable for transporting components, particularly in the automotive industry. It can support loads of up to 900 kg and is 100 percent recyclable. Krahé: “The material composition is an important factor in improving existing products and making them more sustainable.”
At an organizational level, too, ORBIS Europe attaches great importance to high quality standards and has therefore kept its processes and structures at a constant level. This is confirmed by the successful re-certification according to ISO 9001, which is carried out every three years. The areas of management, quality management, sales and purchasing were audited, among others. Certification was carried out for both the location in Hürth and the Belgian branch in Ypres.
Addressing new customer groups
In addition to the ongoing optimization of its transport solutions, ORBIS is also planning to expand its product portfolio in 2025. One of the new products is intended to help win customers in other geographical markets, including in Arab and African regions. ORBIS also wants to expand its European presence and is therefore presenting its sustainable product portfolio for the first time at the Italian trade fair IPAK-IMA from May 27-30, 2025 in Milan.
Social responsibility at Menasha
Conscientious corporate governance is a key concern for the Menasha Corporation. In its annual Corporate Social Responsibility Report the parent company reports on its progress towards social, ecological and economic action. Since 2010, total water consumption per ton produced has fallen by almost 90 percent. In addition, the Menasha Corporation is pursuing the goal of reducing CO2 emissions by 10 percent per ton produced by 2030 (reference year: 2020). To this end, the company was able to save 1.15 percent of greenhouse gas emissions per ton of production last year compared to 2020.
