Masterpress, a European provider of printed decorative packaging solutions, has been shortlisted in two separate categories: Sustainability and Converter of the Year, at the Labels & Labeling Global Awards, placing the company among the top 3 leading label printing and converting companies in the industry. The recognition was announced during the inaugural Labels & Labeling Global Awards ceremony, held on 16 September at Labelexpo in Barcelona, Spain.
In the Sustainability category, Masterpress, was nominated for developing, in collaboration with Magnomer, magnetizable inks for shrink sleeve applications. This solution enables improved separation of the printed substrate in PET-on-PET shrink sleeves, where both the bottle and label are made from the same material and share the same density. The magnetic coating layer remains adhered to the shrink sleeve label throughout the recycling process, so the magnet pulls out the label flakes, leaving behind clean PET bottle flakes ready for reuse. This process significantly enhances recycling efficiency and supports the advancement of a circular economy.
The Converter of the Year award, recognizes label printing and converting companies that have truly distinguished themselves over the last year, demonstrating a commitment to a diverse and inclusive workforce, the development of training programs, contributions to charitable initiatives, and the introduction of innovative products or programs.
“Masterpress has emerged as one of Poland’s most dynamic label converters and a true innovation leader in the European market. From developing magnetizable inks with Siegwerk to enable better recycling, to substrate downgauging with Taghleef, and even pioneering conductive inks for RFID antennae, Masterpress continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible in our industry. Their ongoing investment program, including a new state-of-the-art plant, shows a company committed not only to growth but also to shaping the future of labels and packaging,” said Andrew Thomas-Emans, Strategic Director, Informa Markets, organiser of the L&L Global Awards.
L&L Global Awards: A platform for industry leaders and cross-industry collaboration
“We are incredibly proud to be among the top three converters and sustainability leaders in the industry and want to congratulate Bio4Life and OPM Group for winning this year’s awards,” said Gabriel Magdaleno, Strategic Product Development and Marketing Director at Masterpress. “The inaugural L&L Global Awards highlight the value of cross-industry collaboration, enabling emerging players and industry leaders alike to share insights and best practices, particularly important in the pursuit of sustainable packaging solutions.
“For our industry to evolve towards sustainable packaging, we must continue to invest in R&D and work more closely together,” added Gabriel Magdaleno. “As we engage with stakeholders at Labelexpo, we see rapid innovation across the value chain, though regulatory compliance progresses at varying rates. This dynamic presents an exceptional opportunity for companies to learn from one another and collaborate, advancing our shared transition towards more sustainable packaging.”
