Grimsby-based packaging specialist Lindum has become the world's first company to achieve an ISO17025 accreditation for its innovative Mobile Pallet Stability Testing Lab.
As part of its continuous drive to help combat pallet stability issues, Lindum began its ISO certification journey for the lab in early 2022 to underpin its commitment to accuracy, repeatability, and impartiality.
The mobile testing lab, which recently celebrated its 1000th test, is the UK's first mobile pallet stability testing unit, used to diagnose and eliminate movement in transport (MIT) issues and subsequent damage to palletised goods during transit.
As the world’s only ISO17025-accredited mobile EUMOS deacceleration lab, the facility is driven to client premises to conduct pallet stability testing by replicating exact packaging processes. The self-contained unit uses an onboard acceleration-deceleration bench to simulate the forces a pallet experiences during an emergency braking situation. Immediate data on deflection and movement to determine pallet stability performance in accordance with the EUMOS standard is achieved. Since it’s launch, this lab has enabled a global beverage manufacturer reduce MIT occurrences by 80%.
Before undergoing the official ISO assessment, the company partook a rigorous schedule of calibration and examination to ensure the lab provided accurate and repeatable data. The final assessment took place in May, and Lindum achieved its official ISO certification in July 2023.
Rick Sellars, Sales Manager at Lindum Packaging says: “We are thrilled to have the world’s first ISO1725 certified mobile testing lab. We have invested more than £100K to ensure our mobile test lab provides accurate data from its real-life simulations to identify areas for improvement, reduce plastic waste, and mitigate the risk of movement in transport.
“Since we launched the facility, we have continued to invest in new equipment to ensure each test is fair and accurate. We have added calibration and temperature equipment and a levelling tool to ensure every test takes place on level ground. We have also added marked lines to the sleigh to help determine pallet placement.”
Lindum Packaging also has, ISO9001 and ISO14001 certifications and BRCGS in storage & distribution. Earlier this year, the company also achieved an Ecovardis accreditation which measures the quality of the company's sustainability management.
As the UK’s leading expert on pallet stability, Lindum Packaging understands the challenges companies face when transporting goods and has been instrumental in its efforts to help reduce movement in transport issues.
