Eunomia is a global sustainability consultancy working at the cutting edge of circular economy thinking and practice. Our circular economy services have been a core focus since we launched 24 years ago, and our consultancy services bridge the three key areas of policy, strategy, and implementation.
We provide thought leadership and hands-on design for innovative and effective policies, strategies, and programmes to enable the transition to a circular economy in the European Union, North America, global south, and beyond.
Our research has helped shape key sustainability legislation impacting businesses globally, such as the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which we covered in a recent webinar, the Single Use Plastics Directive (SUPD), Deposit Refund Schemes (DRS), and more.
Combine our knowledge of the legislative circular economy landscape with ‘on the ground’ experience working with recycling and reuse operators and municipalities, and we have the technical expertise needed to design and implement practical strategies and solutions to real-world circularity challenges for businesses - from reuse systems to recycling specifications.
Our vision
At its heart, the word economy refers to how we manage resources wisely for the wellbeing of people, including the next generations. But today, we live in a situation of mismanagement and as a result are living through a triple planetary crisis: climate breakdown, the collapse of biodiversity, and a wave of pollution and waste. These aren’t isolated symptoms - they’re signs of a deeper systemic misalignment.
We believe it’s time to build a new economy that is circular by design, grounded in natural systems, and powered by low-carbon principles. These aren’t three separate strategies. They are interdependent, overlapping, and mutually reinforcing.
Our work sits at the intersection of these transitions. We help organisations move beyond incremental change and reimagine value, growth, and progress. Through systems thinking, deep collaboration, and bold imagination, we guide strategies that don’t just adapt to the future - but help shape it.
How we work with clients
We partner with our clients to review and understand business practices before supporting them to design circularity into their systems.
Within the FMCG sector, we recently partnered with Uber Eats to develop solutions to transition to more sustainable packaging in the last-mile delivery sector.
Our work with innovators in the resource management industry includes support for our long-standing client TOMRA who recently commissioned us to model a packaging reuse system for the takeaway industry. This research influenced design criteria for TOMRA’s current systems, and gave them the information needed to move towards their next steps.
We also work regularly with industry precompetitive collaborations, for example designing a practical and efficient kerbside collection service for Podback, a beverage pod recycling service from coffee brands and retailers.
Closing the loop
Achieving a circular economy is a complex journey with multiple stakeholders, but a system that provides commercial advantages and environmental benefits. To transition to a circular economy business model, organisations need policies, strategies, and implementation plans that enable transformation from a take-make-waste approach towards a closed-loop, regenerative system. It means redesigning products, processes, business models, roles, responsibilities and more, but not without first understanding the current status quo.
Some large companies in Europe are sounding the alarm on the circular economy needing a system boost, particularly in regard to building resilience to manage rising energy use. This new paradigm will not emerge without support from legislation. We bridge the gap between business and legislation, offering scalable circular models and harnessing experience implementing ambitious new circular systems.
At Eunomia, we take pride in working in partnership with clients to understand their objectives, before using our expertise to make their sustainability goals practical and possible.
