Sustainability has evolved from being merely an institutional commitment to becoming one of the main strategic pillars for companies today. Wheaton, a national reference in glass packaging for perfumery and cosmetics, has been reinforcing sustainability as a strategic axis, connecting environmental responsibility with value creation and competitiveness in the packaging industry.
With a management model focused on efficiency and innovation, the company continuously invests in reviewing production processes, aiming to mitigate environmental impacts and make smarter use of resources. This movement aligns with changing consumer behavior, as people increasingly consider product origin, environmental impact, and reusability. Brands that demonstrate commitment to sustainable practices tend to gain greater preference and market share.
“Sustainability today is part of the business strategy. It’s not just about reducing impacts, but about thinking of solutions that bring operational efficiency and contribute to a more responsible industrial model,” says Karolina Cosentino, ESG Supervisor at Wheaton.
Environmental Commitment in Practice
In this context, the company operates with 100% of its electricity sourced from certified renewable hydropower and maintains several initiatives aimed at reducing environmental impacts and strengthening sustainable practices throughout its production chain.
One example is the Ecoglass line, developed based on the principles of circular economy and eco-design. In addition to encouraging reuse and recyclability of packaging, some bottles in the line are lighter, which helps reduce CO₂ emissions by about 15% during production and transportation. Environmental care is also reflected in product design, which combines aesthetics, functionality, and lower environmental impact.
Wheaton also promotes environmental awareness initiatives through the “Atitude que Vale Mais” platform, which encourages sustainable practices and reinforces the importance of environmental responsibility in everyday life. Through the new “Retorna Machines,” Wheaton expands its commitment to sustainability by promoting environmental education and automated collection of post-consumer packaging, offering accessible points for proper glass packaging disposal. Currently, there are three collection points, one of them located at Wheaton’s factory store.
The initiative focuses on raising awareness about responsible disposal and ensuring proper destination of post-consumer packaging to recycling cooperatives, guaranteeing that this material returns appropriately to the production chain. After recycling, the glass is reintegrated into the manufacturing of new packaging through the use of PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled) glass, used as raw material. This action strengthens reverse logistics, reduces the consumption of virgin raw materials, and promotes a circular economy, fostering a more sustainable production chain with positive environmental and social impact, while supporting the recycling sector.
The company is also a member of Sedex (Supplier Ethical Data Exchange), one of the leading global platforms for evaluating and sharing practices related to ethics, sustainability, and responsibility in supply chains, reinforcing its commitment to transparency and corporate responsibility.
This set of practices has earned international recognition. The company was awarded the Silver Medal by EcoVadis, which evaluates criteria such as environment, ethics, labor rights, and sustainable procurement. This achievement places Wheaton among the top-performing companies in sustainability within a global network of more than 130,000 organizations.
Wheaton’s environmental, social, and governance initiatives are detailed in its new ESG report, available on the company’s website: https://www.wheaton.com.br/
“Our commitment is to continuously evolve, seeking solutions that balance economic growth, environmental responsibility, and positive social impact,” concludes Karolina.
