Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT) has been awarded a grant of £20,000 by Beyondly’s Fund for Change, to help more young people reconnect with nature, take action on climate change and get involved in hands‑on conservation across the Yorkshire Dales and surrounding areas.
The award marks Beyondly’s second consecutive year of support for YDMT, building on a grant last year which funded the Trust’s community tree growing work.
“This generous support from Beyondly will enable us to get more young people outdoors, learning practical conservation skills, improving their wellbeing, and feeling empowered to lead environmental change in their own communities and careers,” said YDMT Chief Executive Michael Devlin. “It’s a brilliant vote of confidence in our youth work and the young people we serve.”
How the grant will be used
The funding will contribute to YDMT’s Green Futures pathway, which tackles barriers to nature access and supports young people, aged 11–24, through immersive outdoor experiences and progression routes. Some targets for the project over the coming year include:
- Engaging and inspiring 250 young people from underrepresented communities through 70 outdoor events, including walks, tree planting, bushcraft and habitat conservation.
- Building youth leadership through a monthly Youth Forum, residentials and an annual Youth Environment Summit.
- Creating rural career pathways through YDMT’s Rural Apprenticeship Scheme, combining 18‑month placements, Level 2 Countryside Worker training, and tailored pastoral support.
Reflecting on the partnership, Mel Harper, Head of Brand & Impact at Beyondly, said “YDMT’s youth‑led approach aligns perfectly with our purpose to lead, inspire and educate for a better, fairer, sustainable world for all. At Beyondly, we’re proud to support initiatives through our Fund for Change that empower communities and make lasting environmental change.”
