Koehler NexPlus® OGR is a specialised barrier paper developed for the food service industry. It provides excellent protection against grease and oil for packaging items such as burgers, wraps and chips. It is also recyclable and contains no PFAS.
At interpack 2026 in Düsseldorf (7–13 May), Koehler Paper will present innovative, recyclable packaging papers with and without functional barriers for the food and personal care industries. The exhibition stand in Hall 8a, Stand D42, will focus on paper-based alternatives to plastic packaging that combine product protection, functionality, and recyclability. "With its extensive product range, Koehler Paper shows that flexible, recyclable packaging can increasingly be produced using paper wherever it is technically feasible, while meeting high standards for product protection and processability," says Alexander Rauer, Head of Business Development for flexible packaging papers at Koehler Paper.
At the heart of the exhibition concept is the practical presentation of specific applications. A specially designed retail shelf will showcase the impressive range of packaging solutions already in use, including food products such as tea, chocolate, sugar sticks, pasta and porridge, as well as non-food items such as pet food, cosmetics and drugstore products.
The Koehler NexPlus® OGR product innovation extends the range of barrier papers
A particular highlight of the stand is the presentation of the recently launched Koehler NexPlus® OGR. This new generation of barrier paper complements the existing portfolio and meets the current requirements of the packaging industry, particularly in the food and consumer goods sectors. With Koehler NexPlus® OGR, the company is presenting a new barrier paper that has been specifically designed to meet the needs of the food service industry. Offering a high grease and oil barrier, it is suitable for applications such as burger, wrap and chip packaging, to name a few. The paper is also recyclable and PFAS-free, providing a regulatory-compliant alternative to conventional solutions.
Real-world example: RUF chooses paper-based packaging for its porridge
At the leading international trade fair for the packaging industry, Koehler Paper is showcasing its latest partnership with the German company RUF Lebensmittelwerk KG. RUF uses the flexible packaging paper Koehler NexPlus® Seal Pure MOB for its porridge products. This paper was developed specifically for dry foods, has an integrated mineral oil barrier and can be recycled in the paper stream. It combines product protection with sustainability requirements. By switching to paper-based solutions, RUF has significantly reduced its use of plastic-containing materials.
Applications in focus: 'Show, don't tell' on the shop shelf
Visitors can experience the applications first-hand and learn about the properties of the materials and the requirements for their implementation by speaking with product experts. By doing this, Koehler is adopting a deliberate product-centric approach, bringing solutions to life rather than merely explaining them.
Alongside flexible packaging papers, the company is showcasing additional paper-based packaging options in its extensive product display, including the high-quality recycled papers from the greenium design range. These papers are made from 100 per cent secondary fibre and are ideal for exclusive packaging designs, carrier bags, or high-quality brochures. Visitors can also find out about the KATZ Food Plate®. This customisable food tray is made from wood pulp board and can be used as part of a packaging system or for presenting and serving food in retail or catering settings.
The interactive elements and visual displays of the trade fair presentation, such as large-format LED screens showing moving images, encourage dialogue and transparency, and create space for professional exchange with customers, partners and the trade media.
