FEDEMCO will attend the 18th edition of Fruit Attraction, taking place from 6 to 8 October at IFEMA MADRID, with a clear focus on differentiating wooden packaging from other packaging options through objective, measurable and verifiable environmental data.
Against a backdrop of a European regulatory framework that is strengthening transparency in environmental communications and restricting unsupported generic claims, the Spanish Federation of Wooden Packaging and its Components is pursuing a data-driven strategy. Its main new initiative for this year’s event will be the development of a sector-wide EPD based on a Life Cycle Assessment of wooden packaging.
A SECTOR-WIDE EPD BASED ON LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a Type III environmental declaration that communicates quantified information on a product’s environmental performance in a structured format and in accordance with common methodological rules. It is based on a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), and the resulting information is independently verified.
FROM ENVIRONMENTAL CLAIMS TO MEASURABLE DATA
During Fruit Attraction 2026, FEDEMCO will present the project to institutions, specialist trade media and retail representatives, with the aim of communicating the value of the sector-wide EPD across the fresh produce supply chain as a tool for differentiation and environmental transparency.
The presentation will take place on 8 October at 10:00 am at the FEDEMCO stand, 3B21 · Hall 3, which will also serve as a meeting point for companies and professionals interested in the latest developments in wooden packaging in the areas of sustainability, environmental measurement and regulatory compliance.
FRUIT ATTRACTION: A SHOWCASE FOR DIFFERENTIATION
FEDEMCO will use Fruit Attraction 2026 as a meeting point with the fresh produce supply chain to present this initiative and explain how environmental information can be incorporated into packaging purchasing decisions.
“Sustainability can no longer rely solely on messaging. An EPD makes it possible to move from environmental claims to data: measuring performance using a recognised methodology, subjecting the information to independent verification, and communicating it transparently and in a comparable way where the methodological conditions are equivalent,” says Emilio J. Pérez, FEDEMCO’s Managing Director.
A PROJECT WITH INSTITUTIONAL SUPPORT
The Regional Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Innovation and Trade, under the INENTI 2026 grant programme supporting non-economic activities carried out by business associations to promote the reindustrialisation of the Valencian Community, has awarded FEDEMCO a grant covering 70% of the cost of its Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) project for wooden packaging.
