PCR-based masterbatches in use in new packaging ideas – oil container 50/50 HDPE & PCR-PE
K.D. Feddersen Holding GmbH, parent company of the Feddersen Group, announces that the joint project to develop a sustainable packaging concept has been awarded this year's “German Packaging Award” in the category “Sustainability – Use of Recyclates”. This achievement was realised in collaboration with partner companies saperatec GmbH (PCR supplier), Palbo GmbH (container manufacturer) and AF-COLOR, a specialist in masterbatches belonging to the Feddersen Group and a branch of AKRO-PLASTIC GmbH, and contributes to the circular economy in the packaging industry.
The award-winning project comprised a packaging solution that represents a recycling approach using composite material. The container is made from 50% post-consumer recycled polyethylene (PCR-PE) and 50% high-density polyethylene (HDPE). The colouring was done with AF-Color® PCR masterbatches in blue, black and silver. The PCR material used in the container originally comes from recycled beverage cartons and demonstrates the potential of recycling these material streams.
This project was coordinated by Dirk Schoening, Development Manager Circular Business Models at K.D. Feddersen Holding GmbH. He was responsible for the cooperation and coordination between the three companies involved, which contributed to the realisation of the project.
“This award is the result of our group's collaboration with two committed and innovative partners,” says Dirk Schoening. “It confirms our approach of achieving progress towards a more sustainable circular economy through cooperation and the use of technology. The commitment of all those involved helped to bring together the various areas of expertise and implement the project.”
Dirk Schoening adds: “The development of this packaging solution is a prime example of how close cooperation within the value chain can result in a product that meets quality standards and contributes to the conservation of resources.”
K.D. Feddersen Holding GmbH and its partners would like to thank the German Packaging Institute (Deutsches Verpackungsinstitut e. V.) for presenting this award. They see this as confirmation to continue working on sustainable solutions for the plastics industry and to expand their expertise in the field of circular economy.
AF-COLOR will present this project at K-2025 at the Feddersen Group's joint stand in Hall 6/C76.
