Evertis, a global leader in sustainable barrier film solutions, today announced a significant technological milestone with the installation of a new industry-leading COEX CAST film production line at its Evertis México site. This investment marks a decisive move to further strengthen Evertis as a premium supplier of high-performance, PET-based flexible films across the North American market.
The installation, completed in August 2026, introduces a unique capability to the Evertis portfolio and will deliver over 9,600MT ultra-thin flexible film to the market, taking the manufacturing capacity at the Mexico site to over 44,000 MT. By leveraging advanced COEX CAST technology, the company is bridging the gap between its heritage in rigid packaging and the evolving demands of the ultra-thin flexible sector.

The new line is built around a six-extruder configuration capable of producing structures of up to eight layers, allowing barrier specifications to be tuned to individual applications. Proprietary in-house coextrusion supports tailored formulations, the integration of recycled content, and structures that remain compatible with existing PET recycling streams. Significant downgauging capability reduces material per pack while maintaining mechanical performance, lowering pack weight and material intensity. The films deliver the optical clarity and surface finish required for consumer-facing packaging.
Central to this investment is Evertis’ commitment to the circular economy. The new line will support sustainability demands, engineered to facilitate downgauging, reducing material usage without compromising structural integrity. By producing ultra-thin, high-performance PET films, Evertis enables brands to significantly lower their carbon footprint and minimize plastic waste. Furthermore, advanced in-house coextrusion technology allows for the integration of recycled content, and the development of structures that ensure barrier flexible applications remain fully compatible with existing PET recycling streams.
This news follows the recent announcement that in the US, Evertis is building a new leading edge production plant in Columbia, SC. With a total investment of US $100 million, the new facility is scheduled to be operational in Q1 2028, with its first commercial sales to customers in Q2.
