Digidelta's BIOND range of bio-based printable films has secured independent ‘OK biobased’ certification from TÜV Austria, with testing confirming top ratings for renewable carbon content
Digidelta, a specialist manufacturer of digital printing, decoration, visual communication, and textile materials, has announced that its BIOND range of bio-based printable films has secured independent ‘OK biobased’ certification from TÜV Austria, with testing confirming top ratings for renewable carbon content.
The ‘OK biobased’ certification is an independent label that verifies how much of a product is made from renewable and plant-based sources, instead of fossil resources that are traditionally used to create materials commonly used in print and industrial applications.
Certification is based on a material’s bio-based carbon content, measured using laboratory testing such as radiocarbon analysis under EN 16640 / ASTM D6866 methods. Materials are scored on the percentage of carbon that comes from renewable sources, with ratings ranging from one star up to four stars.
The top-level, four-star rating, which requires an 80% score or higher, is reserved for the best-performing products as certified through TÜV Austria analysis. To date, four products within the BIOND collection have secured this rating.
BIOND Clear Glossy was the highest scoring with 96% renewable carbon content. BIOND Clear Matte also scored highly at 95%, with BIOND Clear Matte Embossed being rated at 94% and BIOND White Glossy/Matte at 80%.
The new certification serves as evidence of the sustainable qualities of BIOND, offering independent clarification of its leading environmental features. With print service providers (PSPs) now under increasing pressure to deliver sustainable print to their customers, working with independently verified products such as BIOND means they can deliver exactly what the customer wants, all without having to compromise on quality.
Demand for sustainable products has rocketed in recent years, with brands and marketers seeking solutions that will strengthen their credentials to meet environment, social and governance (ESG) goals. However, mixed messaging around the sustainable qualities of materials makes this difficult to quantify. As such, certifications like OK biobased provide hard proof of a product’s sustainability.

The BIOND range was launched to the market at the 2025 FESPA Global Print Expo and has already drawn huge interest from print companies worldwide. The ‘OK biobased’ certification comes in what is a milestone year for Digidelta, with the company celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2026. Having started out in 1986 with a focus on digital imaging, printing and visual communication systems, the company has evolved over the years to keep pace with the industry and deliver the solutions PSPs need to succeed and grow in the ever-changing market.
A new 15,000 sq. m. factory in Torres Novas is currently under development and will be built this year to support the advancement of new media solutions. With the completion of this expansion, the facility will house four coating lines, 1,300 racks and five specialist slitters, enabling the production of 75 million square metres of materials per annum. This is in addition to jumbo conversion capacity of 100 million square metres per year and 75 million square metres in annual automated packaging.
Business development is supported further still through regional offices in several key markets, while attendance at leading industry events, including both FESPA and Printing UNITED, has helped expand the company’s reach to more than 60 countries worldwide.
