ORBIS Europe, a manufacturer of durable and sustainable reusable plastic packaging solutions, is expanding its portfolio of reusable bulk containers with a new GitterPak® variant measuring 1200 x 800 x 600 mm (HDB1208-600). While maintaining the standard European footprint, the new container is lower in height than the existing model in the range. This reduced height improves transportation efficiency: larger containers often cannot be filled completely, resulting in unnecessary air space. In addition, many heavy industrial components reach the maximum payload limit before the available container volume is fully utilized. The new variant enables more efficient use of available load volume. As a result, companies can transport more parts per truck and optimize both storage and return logistics processes.
“Several customers specifically asked us for a lower, foldable load carrier for heavy industrial components. With the new GitterPak® variant, we are offering the first foldable solution of its kind on the market with these external dimensions. The lower height also improves ergonomics and accessibility, making loading and unloading significantly easier,” says Jürgen J. Krahé, Senior Director EMEA at ORBIS Europe.
Efficient use of storage and transportation capacity
Produced in Central Europe, the reusable bulk container offers the same payload capacity as its sister model, supporting loads of up to 900 kg while combining high durability with a compact design. With an internal volume of 335 liters, the GitterPak® is designed for transporting heavy parts and components used in industrial manufacturing. Fully loaded, it can be stacked up to 6 units statically and 4 units dynamically. When folded, its volume is reduced by a factor of approximately 2.2, requiring around 53 percent less space than when assembled. This simplifies return logistics and improves their cost efficiency. A jumbo truck can transport up to 272 folded or 170 assembled containers, while a 40-foot container can hold up to 175 folded or 80 assembled units. This enables companies to make better use of existing warehouse space and transport capacity.
Robust plastic solution as an alternative to steel or wood
The GitterPak®'s fully plastic construction eliminates the risk of rust and reduces maintenance requirements compared to metal container solutions. Like the existing version in the range, the HDB1208-600 serves as an alternative to traditional steel, corrugated cardboard, or wooden packaging solutions. Manufactured from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), the GitterPak® features structural foam injection molded sidewalls and a highly durable all-plastic picture-frame base. Its robust construction is designed for a long service life in demanding industrial environments. Custom protective inserts are available for application-specific requirements.
Conserving resources and eliminating single-use packaging
Like all reusable solutions from ORBIS, the new GitterPak® is highly durable and complies with the requirements of the upcoming European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). The reusable container is manufactured using 80 percent recycled content and is recyclable at the end of its service life. ORBIS already uses recycled materials today to manufacture new packaging products.
“In this way, we are helping companies meet regulatory requirements, eliminate single-use packaging from their supply chains, conserve resources, and reduce costs over the long term,” adds Krahé.
