Kongsberg Precision Cutting Systems is committed to providing cutting-edge solutions and consumables, designed with sustainability and durability in mind. In this article, Kieran Spencer, ESG Compliance Officer, delves deeper into how Kongsberg, as a leading provider for the signage, graphics and packaging communities, are contributing to the circular economy.
With just under five years to go until the globally adopted United Nation’s 2030 sustainability development goals, many businesses are justifiably continuing to work towards their circular economy targets. For many of our customers, this includes exploring more sustainable alternative materials to reduce the overall CO2 emissions of their products and services, which can bring their own printing and finishing challenges.
At Kongsberg Precision Cutting Systems, we’re dedicated to providing an extensive range of durable and sustainable solutions, with the support of our technical and material experts. By providing cutting tables and tooling equipment that are designed to last, and enabling customers to cut more sustainable, and demanding, materials, with unmatched precision and productivity.
Materials such as honeycomb board, is a great alternative material that, thanks to its great strength, offers protective qualities, making it ideal for packaging. However, those same qualities make it a material that’s extremely difficult to cut due to its multitude of cells, meaning it requires a sharper and more refined cutting tool.
For other materials, such as paper and other corrugated board, our wider range of consumables, including the CorruSpeed and VariAngle tools, are engineered to deliver superior precision, capable of handling rigid and highly recycled materials, without compromising quality.
Kongsberg PCS’ knifes and tools are crafted from high-grade tungsten carbide, ensuring longer tool life, reducing replacement frequency, and improving cut quality while reducing rework and material waste. As a result of the increased durability, Kongsberg customers can continue to cut materials for as long as possible, before having to invest in new equipment.
For applications requiring higher performance and productivity, Kongsberg also offers routing bits and blades containing a unique C2 coating. This coating is thinner while still providing an exceptionally sharp, hard, smooth, and durable surface for superior cutting, which results in an up to 60% reduction in friction compared to standard DLC coatings, allowing it to last longer and enhancing efficiency, which in turn means less power consumption.
