Bastille Parfums, driven by the desire to shake up the boundaries of a very traditional perfume industry, is a perfume company known for its sustainable and natural fragrances. Reflecting these values, the company is at the forefront of transparency and consumer engagement in the fragrance industry.
The latest initiative, in collaboration with Avery Dennison, leverages RFID sensor technology and the atma.io connected product cloud platform to improve supply chain visibility, traceability, as well as the opportunity to offer a dynamic consumer experience to their customers.
Bastille Parfums is eager to enhance operational excellence by improving inventory accuracy and meeting the growing consumer demand for detailed product information. In response, Bastille Parfums partnered with Avery Dennison to integrate RFID technology and QR codes into two of their product lines, improving tracking of production, inventory management, and enhancing transparency and traceability from raw material sourcing, to consumer purchase.
Enhanced supply chain visibility
Starting in 2023, Bastille Perfumes launched its initiative to integrate Avery Dennison’s RFID technology into two of its product lines, Paradis Nuit and Pleine Lune. The RFID tags are applied at item level, in Bastille Parfum’s production site at Socos Services in Vaux-le-Pénil. Each perfume is tagged with an RFID label that also features a unique QR code. Here, a consumer can scan with a smart device, taking them to a digital experience to unlock information regarding ingredients, date of bottling, olfactory values, fragrance composition and sustainability details.
“Transparency and customer trust are at the core of our brand,” says Sophie Maisant, CEO of Bastille. “With Avery Dennison’s technology, we are fulfilling our commitment to provide complete ingredient disclosure and enhance our customers' experience.”
The use of RFID and QR codes marks a significant step towards achieving greater transparency and interaction within Bastille supply chain, and the experience is unique for every item.
Bastille’s use of RFID technology allows the company to track and trace products throughout the entire supply chain. This improves inventory management, reduces the risk of counterfeit products, and enhances operational efficiency. The integration of the atma.io platform provides real-time tracking, ensuring accurate inventory levels and streamlined operations from production to consumer. This visibility also supports essential sustainability efforts by reducing waste and optimizing resource use.
Consumer engagement through digital experience
With each product equipped with a serialized QR code linked to its RFID tag, Bastille offers consumers a unique digital experience. Scanning the QR code with a smartphone reveals detailed information about the product’s ingredients, sourcing, manufacturing date, and sustainability practices. Through the QR code technology, valuable information has been shared directly with customers, establishing trust and transparency. Since launching, 31% of customers in France have engaged with this feature, with a significant number of the bottles being scanned twice. This not only enhances consumer trust but also provides Bastille with valuable insights into customer engagement and preferences.
Additionally, Avery Dennison’s atma.io connected product cloud transforms products into digital communication platforms, fostering a deeper connection between Bastille and its customers. This interactive content and storytelling approach drives consumer interaction and engagement, reinforcing brand loyalty and trust.
atma.io is a pivotal element in this collaboration, promoting sustainability and consumer engagement. By providing transparency across the supply chain, Bastille Parfums can reduce overproduction and waste, aligning with its commitment to sustainable practices. The atma.io platform also enhances consumer engagement by turning each product into a digital touchpoint, allowing customers to access detailed product information and engage with the brand on a deeper level.
The atma.io platform analytics provide Bastille with deep insights into consumer interactions and trends across different fragrance collections, enabling them to refine their product offerings and enhance customer loyalty.
Bastille Parfums and Avery Dennison’s partnership exemplifies the power of collaboration in driving innovation and customer engagement in the beauty industry.
Reflecting on the collaboration, Maisant adds “How wonderful that in one scan, RFID and QR code technology allows Bastille customers to know everything about the perfume they buy—from sourcing and ingredients to manufacturing secrets and brand insights—all in one easily accessible place.”
