When UKPackaging Expo opens its doors for the first time this September, it will do so with a major endorsement from one of the global packaging industry’s most recognised names. Avery Dennison has confirmed its attendance as a flagship exhibitor, bringing with it a portfolio of innovative, sustainability-led packaging technologies aimed at reducing single-use plastic and delivering commercial value to brands.
The company’s decision to exhibit underscores its strong belief in the potential of UKPackaging Expo as a vital platform for driving industry-wide collaboration, innovation, and meaningful change. Anticipated to become a key date in the calendar for packaging professionals across the UK and beyond, the Expo promises to offer a unique opportunity to engage directly with peers, partners, and thought leaders who are committed to shaping the future of packaging.
“We’re excited to join UKPackaging Expo because we know our solutions can help customers make more sustainable packaging choices,” said Christine Parlee, Marketing Communications Manager at Avery Dennison. “Our EMEA customers are leading the way in eliminating single-use plastics, and we’re here to support them with solutions that deliver both environmental and financial benefits.”
By exhibiting, Avery Dennison aims to contribute to the dialogue around more responsible packaging practices, highlighting how innovation and collaboration can lead to scalable, real-world impacts. The Expo provides an ideal environment to showcase new technologies, exchange ideas, and forge the partnerships necessary to accelerate the shift towards circular packaging solutions.
Pioneering solutions for plastic reduction
Visitors to the Avery Dennison stand will be able to explore the company’s Industrial Elastic Staple® (IndES®) system – a fastener solution designed to replace traditional clamshells, blister packs, and cable ties in retail packaging. The system, which can eliminate up to 99% of single-use plastic in specific applications, demonstrates the company’s commitment to practical, scalable alternatives that meet today’s commercial demands.
Also on display will be the newly-developed Ecotach® Elastic Staples – a degradable variant of the standard elastic staples. These products offer even greater environmental advantages and will be showcased through live demonstrations on stand, where promotional items will be secured to backerboards in real time to demonstrate their incredible strength and versatility.
“A major challenge facing the packaging sector today is delivering sustainable solutions that are cost-effective and scalable,” explained Matthew Hayes, Product Manager at Avery Dennison. “Sustainable packaging shouldn’t be reserved for premium product lines. It needs to work across the board – and that’s exactly what our innovations are designed to do.”
A platform for collaboration and progress
Looking ahead, Avery Dennison is preparing to launch recycled versions of its Industrial Elastic Staples, extending its sustainability commitment across all core product lines. This follows the company’s wider goal for 2025, which includes replacing all virgin polypropylene retail tagging fasteners with versions made from 95-100% recycled polypropylene.
Beyond the on-stand activity, the company sees UKPackaging Expo as an important opportunity to engage with the wider industry. “Events like this are essential for turning sustainability goals into mass-market realities,” Parlee commented. “It’s an opportunity to connect, learn, and influence the future of packaging in meaningful, measurable ways.”
Turning conversations into action
Post-event, Avery Dennison plans to build on new connections by offering free mock-ups to prospective customers, using their packaging samples. These mock-ups will be analysed to determine potential cost and plastic savings – providing brands with immediate insights and clear, actionable next steps.
The company is looking forward to engaging with like-minded industry professionals and exchanging ideas on the future of sustainable packaging. “We’re excited to meet European customers who are on the front line of the sustainable packaging revolution,” added Hayes. “And we’re equally keen to explore the latest technologies and regulatory changes that are driving innovation across the sector.”
