Anticipate industry trends and contribute to positive change, while responding to the needs of an increasingly environmentally and innovation-conscious market. With this goal, Packaging Première & PCD Milan, scheduled for May 13-15 in Milan, launches the fourth edition of the Avant-Garde initiative, which invites exhibitors but also companies, design and branding agencies, material manufacturers, packaging suppliers, start-ups and designers to apply to participate in the selection of the most innovative packaging of the year.
A contest launched to challenge the future of packaging by proposing revolutionary solutions that combine aesthetics, functionality and sustainability. The initiative aims to award original ideas that can redefine the vision of packaging. Projects, evaluated by a panel of highly qualified experts, are eligible for one of the following categories:
- Design: dedicated to manufacturers of innovative packaging in terms of aesthetics, design and functionality for the brand and consumer.
- Innovative Materials: open to effective producers of the innovative material.
- Sustainability: extended to anyone using sustainable materials (whether or not produced in-house) or respecting a sustainable supply chain in the production of the proposed creation.
Participants can apply for one or more innovative projects no later than February 3, 2025.
All selected projects will be exhibited at Packaging Première & PCD Milan 2025 in the area dedicated to Avant-Garde. The winners of the Avant-Garde Award in the three different categories will have the opportunity to present their project during a session within Packaging Première & PCD Milan 2025 conference calendar. In addition, they will be displayed during London Packaging Week (September 2025) and Paris Packaging Week (January 2026).
“This project was created to envision the packaging of tomorrow, challenging the limits of innovation and sustainability. It is an open invitation to anyone who wants to propose solutions that not only fulfil the current needs, but also set the guidelines for the future. Packaging Première & PCD Milan is committed, through different projects, to create a true artistic gallery where technical and creative interpretations can be displayed, enhancing the product and its ability to narrate the value of design. In addition to Avant-Garde, the Design Hub, a space where agencies specializing in packaging design come together in a spirit of non-competitive collaboration, create a connection between creativity and innovation, art and engineering, technique and invention, style and elegance,” says Lara Castagna, Head of Event Packaging Première & PCD Milan.
