Primula Cheese launches fully recyclable tubes

Primula Cheese has unveiled brand new packaging that – for the first time – is fully recyclable.

Its famous squeezy tubes have previously featured an aluminium layer insert, however the brand has worked with Albéa to produce sleek new tubes that can be widely recycled up and down the country.

The Albéa Greenleaf tubes are innovative, with a multi-layer blown film in one single step versus a traditional lamination process in four steps and are fully sustainable, with a high content of HDPE meaning they are recyclable in existing HDPE Bottle streams. Up to 20% less virgin plastic is used for the new Primula tubes, which means a carbon footprint reduction of up to 21 per cent.

Despite being a much thinner plastic, the new tubes achieve a better moisture barrier, have high opacity to block standard UV light and include a UV-blocker to protect from the sun, and have a better oxygen barrier. This means that Primula Cheese remains as fresh as it always has done and keeps its great taste.

The new tubes can also withstand higher bursting pressure, meaning less damage to a dropped tube, and thanks to the unique nature of Greenleaf, with a single blown film there is a reduced risk of delamination due to product interaction.
