One of the packaging solutions supported by the new production line is AmLite HeatFlex™, a recycle-ready pack for heat treated products, such as wet pet food, ready-meals, microwavable rice, and baby food.
Amcor (NYSE: AMCR, ASX: AMC), a global leader in developing and producing responsible packaging solutions, has invested in a new production line at its Amcor Flexibles site in Lugo di Vicenza, Italy. The recently extended facility is dedicated to the production of the company’s high-barrier recycle-ready films for a wide range of packaging formats.
The latest department enables the large-scale production of high-barrier films for use in lidding and pouches for a wide variety of food, beverage, pet food and healthcare applications, including AmLite HeatFlex™, a breakthrough material for retort (high heat) applications. The innovative technology enables recyclability while maintaining excellent barrier properties, helping brands progress towards their sustainability goals and comply with upcoming regulations.
Occupying nearly 7,000 m2, the expansion of the Lugo facility caters to each stage of the high-barrier film production process. For example, the expansion features a quality control laboratory and a new automated high-density warehouse with temperature-controlled chambers for curing the material to ensure consistent quality of the final packaging solution.
Recognising the site employees and project team, Elena Peron, Plant General Manager, said of the new investment: “This new facility is the result of Amcor’s pledge to develop all our packaging to be recyclable, reusable or compostable. This expansion, combined with the Amcor team’s expertise, will support our customers in making the switch to recycle-ready packaging and contribute to a more circular packaging industry.”
The need for more recyclable, high-performance packaging is underscored by the European Union’s Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which requires brands to switch to recycle-ready packaging by 2030. Amcor has positioned itself ahead of the curve, providing brands with recycle-ready solutions that help them get ready for PPWR, and meet rising consumer demand for improved sustainability.
