AIMPLAS, the Plastics Technology Centre, will host the fifth edition of its international seminar on plastics legislation, OKPLAST, on 27–28 May 2025. Sponsored by Andersen and UNE, the event is set to become a vital forum for the plastics industry, offering insight into the sweeping regulatory changes shaping the sector.
As Europe experiences an unprecedented surge in regulatory activity, OKPLAST 2025 will gather over 25 international experts to provide a comprehensive update on legislation affecting the entire plastics value chain—from production to waste management. AIMPLAS aims to support companies in navigating this complex landscape, ensuring they are prepared for what many describe as a “legislative tsunami”.
A key focus will be greenwashing, particularly in light of EU Directive 2024/825, coming into force in March 2026. The directive reinforces consumer protection against misleading environmental claims. Speakers including representatives from Spain’s Ministry of Industry and Tourism, Ihobe, and Hispacoop will outline how companies must now ensure their environmental messaging is accurate, evidence-based, and transparent.
Another major topic will be the Ecodesign Regulation. Experts will examine Regulation (EU) 2024/1781, in force since July 2024, and explore the role of ecodesign in product development. Attendees will also learn about the Digital Product Passport (DPP), set to revolutionise product traceability and sustainability data.
The second day of OKPLAST will delve into packaging and packaging waste, highlighting Regulation (EU) 2025/40. This includes new rules on recyclability, mandatory recycled content in plastic packaging, and reuse requirements. Industry voices from Anaip, Procircular, Food Chain ID, Coca-Cola and others will explain the practical implications of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and new tax obligations on single-use plastic.
Beyond legislation, the seminar will explore innovation opportunities, including updates on microplastics, critical raw materials, food contact materials, and REACH requirements for polymers. The potential impact of the UN’s Global Plastics Treaty will also be discussed, underscoring the growing importance of international collaboration in promoting circularity.
With contributions from organisations such as AESAN, Anarpla, CECA Magán, EsPlásticos, Plastics Europe, and Zerya, OKPLAST has cemented its position as a key industry event. It offers companies a strategic platform to anticipate risk, harness opportunity, and prepare for a future shaped by sustainability, regulation, and global responsibility.
