Aegg, a Suffolk-based food and drink packaging company, was named the winner of the SME Member of the Year award at the 2024 Glass Focus Awards, which took place in November 2024. The annual awards were created by British Glass, the representative body for the UK glass industry, which celebrates the achievements, innovations, and contributions of industry leaders across the glass supply chain.
British Glass CEO Dave Dalton said “In challenging times, our industry remains resilient and continues to be a key driver of the UK economy. I’d like to thank everyone who submitted an entry for this year’s awards.”
Aegg’s packaging business grew exponentially between 2023 and 2024 and forecasts continued growth throughout 2025, despite a challenging economic and political landscape. The glass share of its business grew by 70 percentage points between 2018 to 2024, including increased demand for its glass food jars, sauce bottles and drinks bottles.
In addition to winning the SME Member of the Year award, Aegg Creative Packaging was featured within the Suffolk Top 100 companies for the last two years in a row, for both 2023 and 2024. This recognition is part of an annual business analysis, the Suffolk Limited report, conducted by Grant Thornton in partnership with Birketts LLP, highlighting the county's 100 largest privately owned companies based on turnover.
Aegg’s Sales & Marketing Director, Richard Drayson, said “Our growth is underpinned by excellent customer service (we received 100% customer satisfaction in a recent survey), consistent stock levels, and developing sustainable partnerships with both our customers and our suppliers. What makes us different is our ability to select the best packaging options for businesses by fully and collaboratively understanding their needs.”
Richard Drayson added “Originally Aegg produced injection moulded plastic products and supplied glass ramekins. Both remain part of our portfolio today. However, the glass packaging element of our business has been the real star growth-wise over the past few years, as we continue to strengthen our relationships with customers and suppliers, whilst providing a high level of customer service.”
“Sustainability is also a key focus for us at Aegg, and we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint. We are focused on continuing to develop partnerships with manufacturers engaged in reducing their carbon emissions and their wider environmental impact. We are driven by the desire to leave a positive legacy in our industry.”
Richard Drayson adds “Successful businesses are only possible by working with excellent people. We would like to thank our fantastic team as well as our suppliers for their dedication and support in enabling us to continue to grow. We couldn’t have achieved this accolade without your continued support. This award is for you!”
To support Aegg’s growth, £5 million has been invested in renovations to create its Suffolk head office, two expansive warehouses, and the acquisition of over 30 vehicle units for its in-house transport team. Given the scale of operations in Suffolk, particularly near Felixstowe docks, Aegg moved its teams from Andover in Hampshire to the site at Eye in 2023 to enhance day-to-day operations, assisting with its continued expansion.
